Make Your Mark - Visual Arts for High School Students

Make Your Mark

Make Your Mark is an intensive visual art program at the Shadelands Art Center for high school students who are interested in and who can benefit from increased exposure to and experience in the visual arts as they strengthen their portfolios and become more well-rounded artists. Students will meet weekly (Fridays) at the Shadelands Art Center Annex throughout the school year (October – June) to explore the technical and theoretical aspects of art, explore career paths, strengthen portfolios, and explore their creative potential in a series of 5, six – week intensive studio art programs. During the program, students will meet with artists and craftspeople, curators, and other art professionals and will take field trips to museums, and galleries (possibly local artist’s studios). Through this program, students will enhance and strengthen language, awareness, and just as important – why they create art. With this knowledge and hands-on experience, they will be able to effectively build, as well as comment on, their portfolios with peers and artists they meet along the way. In addition to weekly meetings, students will be encouraged to participate in volunteer projects that will contribute to increasing awareness of the importance of art in our community. A group exhibit, as well as opportunities to show and sell work in local venues will be included in the program.

Lesher Center

As we all know there is  a large building known and referred to as The Lesher Center. Located in downtown Wanut Creek, this place hosts everything from musicals and dramas right on down to holding city events. If you wanted to be a bigger part of our community and want to be entertained, I highly recommend just popping your head in at the Lesher Center or going to their website at www.lesherartscenter.org/

This open space has so much to do and to choose from. The possibilities are endless.
